You must know how to swim, and be in reasonably good physical shape to attend a surf camp or surf lesson.
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN WETSUIT
You must have your own wetsuit. See tips on renting or buying a wetsuit, and water temps at the bottom of this page. Later in the summer you may not need a wetsuit.
CANCELLATION POLICY
WHERE TO MEET US
ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE 5 DAY CAMP — Meet us at the south end of 5th street, which forms a dead end on the north side of the main lower beach. You will see our van, and we will sign you in.
ON OTHER DAYS, WALK NORTH ON THE BEACH FROM THE VOLLEY BALL COURTS ABOUT 300 YARDS. OUR TENT IS ON THE ONLY ONE ON THE MAIN BEACH, PAST THE ENTRANCE.
WHAT TO BRING
Some snacks or a sandwich for the break. They can also bring money for the snack bar.

TIPS FOR GETTING A WETSUIT
If the water temp gets to 68 and above, there is no need for a wetsuit, though it does protect against sunburn and board rashes.
WETSUIT RENTALS
Hansens in Encinitas rents wetsuits for $10 first day, and $5 each additional say. Hansens Phone: 760-753-6595 Hansens is a big department store surf shop on the south end of Encinitas on Coast Highway, on the east side of the street.

Less expensive wetsuits for growing kids
Big 5, Dicks Sports and Play it Again Sports.
More expensive wetsuits
are the surf shops, such as Hansens in Encinitas, Surf Ride in Solana Beach, Encinitas Surf Shop, and Mitch’s Surf Shop in Solana Beach and La Jolla. Any surf shop along the coast will be selling wetsuits.
ONLINE WETSUITS: Not the best idea to buy a wetsuit online, you need to go into a place and get a good fitting wetsuit.
WETSUIT FITTING
You must go into the shop to have the wetsuit fitted properly. It should fit tight, but not too tight. If it is too loose, it will fill with water. With growing kids, we recommend going the cheaper route at Big 5 or Dicks Sports. Wetsuits come in different thickness. There is 3/2 (3mm/2mm) and 4/3 mm. You will only need the 3/2 for summer. You can get a full suit or a spring suit. (Spring suit – short sleeves and short legs – not good for colder water/days.) CURRENT WATER TEMPS
Below are the water temps at Oceanside outer waters, and Scripps La Jolla inner waters. Scripps is generally the warmest in San Diego.
