Sid Madden grew up right up the street from Swamis, and was a super star of local surfers, though a very humble guy, and always friendly to all.
I have been getting surfboards from him since the 1970s, and now have three. (In the 1970’s, I used to get rounded pintails from him. I probably got about three back then.) Anyway, Sid helped me out on my very first surf lesson as Leucadia Surf School, and was an on and off again instructor in the early days. He finally got mad and quit cause I was yelling at him one day when he was standing on the beach instead of being in the water with the customers when we had a group lesson going on. But we are still friends. The very first lesson I had which I did with Sidney, was a group of intermediates from Oregon. They were three women in their 30’s and 40’s. We paddled them out at Grandview, first.
